Tonight, the Husker women (19-4, 8-3) face Minnesota (12-14, 4-8) in Minneapolis. Nebraska holds a 6-5 edge in meetings between the teams, but they've never defeated the Gophers at Williams Arena.
Minnesota will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak. They're tough at home, beating top-ten Ohio State 76-65, and losing to a ranked Penn State team by just three. Minnesota gets balanced scoring from Rachel Banham (15.9 ppg), Kiara Buford (13.6), and 6-4 Jr.
Katie Loberg (10.0). The team is one of the conference's better three-point shooting teams, hitting 44% at home, and they convert 79% of their free throws.
Nebraska is coming off an ugly loss to Michigan Thursday night, shooting a season-low 25.8% from the field. Connie Yori's young team showed a lot of pluck, though, coming back from 27-down to lose by 11. When the Huskers and Gophers met in January, NU won 64-49.
With a win tonight, Nebraska will get it's 13th 20-win season in school history, and the fourth 20-win season in the last 6 years. In the
conference standings, NU is tied for third, and Minnesota is tied for eighth.
Now, on to the game...and to hell with the imagined CN gamethread jinx. It does not exist!

I read
where Connie loves it. I think we played some regional tourney games there. Yori said we shot well. Not so much tonight.

Some half-time stats:
FG % about equal…Huskers only 2-10 from the arc, Gophers 2-3…rebounds about equal…Huskers have the edge in assists, 8-2.
Minnie killing us with their transition game.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Three straight buckets by Minn....now up 33-24.
Ugly, ugly start.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Dagger...
Buford hits a three…12 straight points for Minn. following the break…and now another bucket…38-24. Oh, God, it’s the CN gamethread jinx…and they score again. Can’t type fast enough…40-24 Gophers. Oh, my.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Great drive,
bucket and foul by Burke…but misses the front end…40-26.

Jon Johnston - February 13, 2012 via iPhone app
I was naive.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Hey,
Emily Cady blocked the dastardly Buford!
redvalley - February 13, 2012

redvalley - February 13, 2012
Huskers on a 22-6 run.
Then Minn hits a three and Hooper answers. 49-49.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Hi everyone, new commenter (well, on here anyways)
And as soon as I flip the TV back to the game Huskers tie it :) haha just decided I’m tired of being called a traitor in my house so thought I’d come here and talk to other Huskers fans if that’s alright with you guys :)
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Welcome!
It’s kind of lonely here toight….but a good game going on.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
thanks!
And I’ve been trying to follow along on here and BTN2go (while doing homework which was kind of hard), finally worked up the nerve to comment once I actually got the TV change to the game so I actually know what is exactly going on. Sounds like I’ve missed a pretty great game so far
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
cool
Welcome!

52-51 Minn. 7:34 left.
And Minnie misses two FT’s, but gets the put-back….then a steal and score by Banham.
56-51 Goofs.

58-54 them.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Hooper Hot!
58-56 Minn.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Nice drive!
Tied again, how about we take the lead and keep it now?
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Jeffrey with a steal,
and the senior Burke scores….Tie game at 58…3:04 left.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Nothing falling for
either team now. Still 58-all.

Kellogg scores. 60-58 Gophers.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
15 sec's left
Minn. to the line. Hits both. Gophers up four…crap!
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Crap...
Looks like I’m probably going to have to give my dad $5… darn
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Aw,
Dad’s should never take money from their kid!
redvalley - February 13, 2012
haha he says its justified because I'm rooting against my home state.
He doesn’t even like sports (much less women’s sports) so I don’t get why he cares, but we always bet when other colleges I like more than the Gophers are playing them. I usually win…
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Are you a Husker fan?
Or just anti-Gopher?
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Husker, I've wanted to go there for almost 3 years,
but if I’m watching a Gophers game it’s rare that I am rooting for them. Nebraska and Baylor are my 2 favorite colleges
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Britney Griner fan?
(not sure on the spelling)
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Yeah, ever since my coach
told all of our post players to watch her even her freshman year. And I’ve grown to love their softball team too
twinsgirl197 - February 13, 2012
Hooper miises
the three…6.6 left…Minn hit’s both FT’s. 64-58. The fat lady is singing.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
And that's it.
Gophers win. NU drps to fourth in the B1G.
No more women’s gamethreads. Stinking, lousy, crummy, rotten jinx is what it is!
redvalley - February 13, 2012
I think we need to burn down CN.
There’s a lot of bad juju around here. I blame Michigan.
Salt Creek and Stadium - February 13, 2012
I was the first to recommend it
last thursday, then I saw that you seconded the notion. Are two votes enough to light the match?!
redvalley - February 13, 2012
I would think almost four months of bad luck would be enough to warrant a flamethrower.
Salt Creek and Stadium - February 13, 2012
Oooohhhh,
I love the flamethrower idea. Dramatic!
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Then we need to do it
before Jon decides to put up a baseball thread. Erstad needs every edge he can get in his first year. No bad juju for him.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
oh u
Don’t have long to get it done then
Jon Johnston - February 13, 2012 via iPhone app
Perhaps we should
call in a priest to do an exorcism.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
Or let the men's team
continue to be the sacrificial lamb. When they win again, we’ll know we’re safe.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
uh
that could be next year.
Jon Johnston - February 13, 2012
what if they
Lose the next one?
Jon Johnston - February 13, 2012 via iPhone app
What I'm more afraid of is this:
We play Northwestern next, and they’re near the cellar, so we should beat them at home, and we sorely need that win.
I refuse to ruin their chances. NO MORE gamethreads until I’m sure the jinx is gone.
redvalley - February 13, 2012
*No gamethreads for non-men's basketball
