We're in some tough times again for the Nebraska men's basketball team. Doesn't seem like it's been quite long enough since that 2-14 conference season to be going through this again, but alas..here we are. Fan apathy is back in full swing, the Big Ten is as brutal as it's been in years, and everyone is again shaking their head at Doc Sadler's chances of remaining head coach of the Cornhuskers.
I wouldn't be so down in the dumps about these things, if they weren't all so glaringly truthful. Doc Sadler is very likely to get the axe after this season, as Osborne will show respect for what he's done here, letting him finish the season, before politely sending him on his way to a better suited mid-major job somewhere. Truth be told, I've always held the opinion that Doc Sadler is the best assistant coach in the BCS conferences. He's in the wrong job, for now.
Fans in Nebraska will come and go with the basketball team. That will never change. As long as football is the classic 1969 Chevy Camaro, in perfect shape sitting in the garage, the basketball team will always be the oft-neglected 1989 Ford Escort parked on the curb. Until there is equal interest, equal care, and a spot in the garage for the Ford, there will never be comparable results or dare I say- success. It's not that it can't happen, but it appears that most fans are perfectly content to maintain the norm, make backhanded jokes about the mere existence of the second-highest grossing sport on campus, and generally sit back and wait until their buddies come over to see the Camaro in the garage.

Let's be clear, I'm as disappointed as the next guy. I'm not without expectations, and I agree that "feel-good" wins do not exist in the Big Ten. I truly believed that with the addition of Bo Spencer and Dylan Talley, we would be in a great position to compete for a Tournament spot, and land half way up the ladder in the conference. There were plenty of reasons to think so, as we returned a ton of starters and experience from a team that just about made it last season. But something is not right in Lincoln, and it's been more evident this season that in any of Doc's previous five campaigns. I have problems with the players, sure...but they do what they are coached, and this group has broken down fundamentally so often, that you wonder what is going on inside the new plush, iPod-studded training complex. You know, the one that get's mentioned on every nationally broadcast 15 point beat down suffered by the Big Red?
I've heard a lot of different opinions on Doc Sadler. National media loves him, and praises his "discipline" and tough brand of defensive minded basketball. We hear fans talk of how likable he is, and that it's too bad he's going through all of this. He's a charming southern chap with a love for the game, and a desire to coach young men to be better players, and better citizens and students off the court.
I wish I didn't agree with all of this so much. I wish there was something I hated about him, other than the way he wears his ties. I wish there was some reason that I could make it easier to finally admit what I have been trying to avoid: That I now believe it's time for Doc to move on, and find that job out there that is a much better fit for him.
There is a game, a winnable one, this afternoon. Battle for the basement. I'll watch, and be happy if we win...because that's all we can do. Right?
Go Big Red!

Doc needs to fondle a cheerleader or something. Pull a Larry Eustachy. Something…..
Brian Speers - February 11, 2012

redvalley - February 11, 2012

Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Niemann
just hasn’t played enough.
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Wonder why
ESPNU hasn’t gone to hi-def…
redvalley - February 11, 2012
Tally three
16-14 PSU.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
wtf
people just shoot threes against us because they can, don’t they?
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Seems like it
What happened? We usually do good at outside defense.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Penn State
on a nine-two run. 25-16. : (
redvalley - February 11, 2012
hey!
FINALLY – I have an old Windows 2000 Server converting off ESX 3.02 to a ESXi 4.0 update 1 server. Holy crap, what a PITA.
So….. we’re behind.
And Richardson misses right under the basket
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
bad stuff
Brian Speers - February 11, 2012
maybe
we should hire a coach from Harvard. :)
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Walker with a dunk!
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
see that?
stupid foul on a bad shot…bailed him out
Brian Speers - February 11, 2012
Rivers is a freshman, but still
Brian Speers - February 11, 2012
pretty clean
block by Rivers, but they didn’t call him for running into the guy’s back, so i guess…..
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Is it just me or is the ESPNU announcing crew really anti Nebraska. It seems like they talk about Penn St. all the time and only mention Nebraska when they do something bad.
jack dein - February 11, 2012
honestly
other than Bo Spencer, I’m not sure what I’d say about this team.
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
add to that
when teams don’t have star players, i think the announcers tend to talk about whomever’s winning at the time.
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Or the home team as well
Although I don’t want to stop jack dein’s theory of anti-Nebraska sooooo
THEY BE HATIN’ ON OUR PLAYERS PAAAWWWWWWL!

you know… Google Chrome doesn’t refresh these game threads worth a damn.
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Well,
at least we scored more than 15 points in the first half.
36-26 PSU. Halftime.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
i have
to go do some family stuff….. i would appreciate it you guys could post score/times as the game goes on…..
even if it’s bad.
thanks
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012
Paint
Find it. If we are the best in the B1G in free throws, let’s drive the ball. All we do is pussyfoot around the perimeter. Talley hits a few three’s and we’re ok for a minute, then our offense gets stagnant. It’s like their feet fall asleep. Doc needs to grow a pair and start throwing clipboards to at least make the game interesting.
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
I don't
Get this either – why don’t we go inside more?
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
Well of course
PSU starts out with another three.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
Hey, McCray answers!
39-29
redvalley - February 11, 2012
33-45 bad guys
Welp, they’re whoopin’ our ass again. Big coastal dunk by some dude on the bad team. According to ESPsuN play announcers, it was the most epic dunk in history.
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Remember
If you want to find the cleanest restrooms in the state…you go to Sapp Bros.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
ha!
Thanks Doc!
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Don't thank me
Thank whoever sells the ad space during Husker bball games
They are truly doing God’s work
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
didn't penn st
Shoot well in the first half of the game in Lincoln then fall apart the second half?
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
I just remember that Frazier kid getting almost 30 pts
but hopefully your right about them on their 2nd half shooting
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
45-33 PSU
15:27
redvalley - February 11, 2012
When did Doc
stop wearing a tie? He wasn’t wearing one at the start, so it’s not like he ripped it off in the heat of battle.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
Getting real ugly now.
51-33 Lions.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
And 1
50-them 33-us..wait make that 51. 13:19. Talley just got fouled. 3 fouls on Marshall. Now the announcers ask if we shut out psu the rest of the game, do we have the chance to score more than 51?
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
How sad.
The announcers are now recommending giving Doc a hug.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
WTF was that
Should have drawn the foul. His arm was chopped pretty good.
11:46 left and it’s approximately cold as balls outside btw.
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Are those
the brass ones you’re referring to? : )
redvalley - February 11, 2012
By the way,
it’s a balmy 14 above at my abode.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
We hit 20 already!!
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
We're at 12 right now
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Tally
with a pretty long-range three…51-36 PSU
redvalley - February 11, 2012
so
Still much sadness
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
Jeez,,,another bad game?!!
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
and you're surprised?
redvalley - February 11, 2012
Well, i thought we could beat PSU!
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
Oh, you fool, you fool!
redvalley - February 11, 2012
You guys
Nebraska basketball is really bad.
I’m serious: REALLY BAD.
Cheeseandcorn - February 11, 2012
Maybe TO
can hire that Ravenna HS coach. He always seems to field good teams.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
He's a great guy, too.
And hey, he’d probably be the only art teacher coaching in college basketball.
Cheeseandcorn - February 11, 2012
At least my son's team won today.
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
Well, hell
ask his coach if HE’S available!
redvalley - February 11, 2012
LOL,,, the Air Force guys up here voulenteer to coach the little guys,,,
and do a great job teaching fundamentals! Maybe that’s just what the Huskers need?
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
and will coach for $100k
Cause if we’re not going to buy a decent one then let’s just pay someone crap money finish at the bottom and pocket the profits anyeay
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
it is
But the good news is with new facilities new arena our women’s te should. Be kicking ass for years to come
Jon Johnston - February 11, 2012 via iPhone app
This year? Yes.
Most years (especially in the Doc years) at least they’re competative
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Competitive, schmompetitive
0 NCAA tourney wins ever = BAD.
0 NCAA appearances in the past 15 years = BAD.
0 winning records in conference play in the past 14 years = BAD.
0 appearances in the conference championship game in, what, 20 years? More? = BAD.
Cheeseandcorn - February 11, 2012
Yes, that is BAD!!
btw,,,what the hell happened to our Packers??,,,dam!!
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
Ah, I thought you were just talking about this year
If you want to go to all time stats then yes, as a program, Nebrasketball is not look upon as a program to emulate. But, it’s not like they are the WORST. PROGRAM. EVAR.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
If we're not...
Who is…?
Salt Creek and Stadium - February 11, 2012
I mean this is a program that has won the NIT...well...awhile ago but still
it’s not like they are the worst thing in the sport. Every year within the Big 12 it seems they were picked last or close to last place and every year they at least were middle of the pack at the end of the year. They try but just, for some reason, can’t get over that all important make the NCAA tourney hump. They will. Just give them time.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
A Mike Fox 3!
The comback starts NOW!
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Spencer drives for the hoop.
58-43 Them…6:24 to go.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
Are we guessing the score again today?
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
No, that's just depressing
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Damn
If we coulda had Jeter and Spencer on the same squad that’d be a great team to watch
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
That Frazier guy
now has 19 points.
redvalley - February 11, 2012

Shockers of Weechitaw Stayte
I hope the beat Creighton’s ass today.
Timmy “Free throw triple double” FRAZYAAAAHH owns us. 62-and we haven’t scored since that last time with 3:hurryup left in the game.
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
64-47 Frazier has 23 pts
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
My Dad always
calls and reminds me when Creighton’s on TV. Don’t have the heart to tell him I can’t stand CU.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
That sucks..haha
Just use the ole “I liked them better with Dana Altman” excuse..
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Oh, no.
It’s a rule that a Catholic MUST root for Creighton (and Notre Dame) no matter what. I think it’s in the Bible.
I’m such a sinner.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
I'll do the root for Notre Dame bit
I live near Creighton fans so I can’t, in good faith, root for those people
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
And the Vatican wonders why they're having trouble with their American congregations?
Give them some better teams to root for, Benedict!
Salt Creek and Stadium - February 11, 2012
You know what pisses me off?
My dad graduated from NU in ‘80 and will actively watch Creighton games cuz “my buddy from work is a huge bluejay fan” even though he’s been a Husker bball fan since forever.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
Amen to that
I flat-out can’t stand Creighton baseball, basketball, basketweaving…I don’t get “Homers”…gimme red till I’m dead baby. I only wear blue if it’s a BoSox hat or shirt. Hehe
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
Dockers
You can’t go to a Creighton game unless you wear them. Another reason to hate the jays. ;-)
BryanNbugaha - February 11, 2012 via mobile
my buddy replaces "Go Huskers" in "Dear Old Nebraska U"
with “FUCK CREIGHTON”
works surprisingly well

Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
67-51 PSU. Final.
BUT, Frasier fails to hit the hallowed triple-double.
redvalley - February 11, 2012
How many more games left?
sd.husker - February 11, 2012
Too many
for this team!
redvalley - February 11, 2012
We can still get to 7 wins buuuuuuuuuut
it’ll be difficult. As long as we can give the broom treatment to Iowa then I’ll consider this season a success.
Doc1028 - February 11, 2012
67-51 ballgame.
Later y’all. Take care!

I am late to this party..
But I’d like to point out that my first car was a 1989 Ford Escort. It managed to catch fire in the middle of an intersection at rush hour and burned for a good half hour before a fire truck could get to it.
So not much different than this basketball season, really.
