And Corey Whitaker Makes #13: The 2012 Nebraska Husker Recruiting Class Gains Momentum

Going against the best advice of his staff, Pelini rolls the dice on yet another thug.

Going against the best advice of his staff, Pelini rolls the dice on yet another thug.

A few days after adding Leroy Alexander, the Cornhusker staff appears to have plucked the commitment of another late bloomer away from big-name programs trying to make a late push for a player who bloomed in his senior season. Corey Whitaker, a senior from Vista Murietta HS in Murietta, CA, gave his oral pledge Monday to the Huskers. He is a 6'5" 270lb OL who is projecting as a guard or center in Lincoln.

Vista Murietta.

I've never heard of it, but it just SOUNDS like the kind of place where I could stand on a bluff at sunset facing the ocean appearing to be really deep in thought about something with my arm lazily draped around Kaley Cuoco who is dressed in shorts a bikini top and a sarong. I think a cute dog sits by us looking out over the water as well. What was I talking about?

Star-divide

Whitaker was named to Southern California Preps All Inland Division Football 1st Team for 2011. I don't know who that is, but it sounds damned impressive. Even though the the whole "Inland" thing might have just shot down my staring over the ocean fantasy. Shit.

Whitaker was in Lincoln this past weekend, and the visit went so well that he committed following an in-home visit from John Garrison. People like to talk about recruiting strategies - do you want to grab that last visit and stay on a recruit's mind or do you want to get in first and impress him early? In this case, the latter paid off in spades as Whitaker fell in love with the campus, facilities and the people - so much so in fact that he cancelled a scheduled visit to Oregon this weekend. Florida had reportedly been in contact as well, but Whitaker no longer has interest there either.

Whitaker joins fellow OL recruit Paul Thurston in the 2012 class.

" Pelini rolls the dice on yet another thug."

Yeah, in that picture he looks like a total thug? Um….sure you got the right caption with the right picture?

But anyway, back to the Kaley Cuoco thing…..much better visual.

I think the "thug" thing is sarcasm

I don’t totally get it, and I’m not sure I want to, but I definitely don’t think he’s serious.

Total sarcasm

I’ve seen golden retriever pups with a higher degree of thuggishness than this pic.

I About Did a 'Spit Take'

…“golden retriever pups with a higher degree of thuggishness”…..Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!1

Much better visual.....

i have

never watched this show until my son got the first season from netflix.

I am way out of touch socially. I might as well be a hermit.

Looks like another diamond in the rough

Here’s his highlight reel- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy0PmuiFqMw

Bo seems to good at finding diamond’s in the rough. Actually, with our recruiting disadvantages that’s exactly what where we’ll have the most success. Everyone is getting antsy, though, wondering if we’ll land these “big” name guys. I’m looking at you, Andrus Peat…and you, Devin Fuller.

ok first off i like the pickup

Second right woman wrong mental image. She is wearing nothing but a husker jersey watching football duh.

I wouldn't be watching the game...
In some of those highlights, he looks like Michael Oher

from “The Blind Side” (Ole Miss/Baltimore Ravens) pushing back his opponent further than the running back actually runs.

Wow

Got that right – that’s the image I got watching that. Excellent! Good job recruiting coach!

damn he looks good

From watching his highlights, what he lacks in skill he seems to make up for it in the fact that no one seemed to be able to get past him cause he’s stronger and meaner than they are. When i say skill, looked like sometimes he pushed the other guy into the running back, witch with a good coach this kid could be a show stopper. Too bad we have cotton and not someone better.

I am not certified...

but half of those highlights look like they should be called for holding. I doubt he’ll be able to manhandle other legit athletes like that once he hits the camp.

scratch that...

Its just domination. :)

Depends on the referee.

/rimshot

He's a PANCAKER!!

NICE! Haven’t seen that in quite a while!

He is fast for a O-linemen.

I can picture him as a lead blocker on a sweep play
