Leroy Alexander wasted no time making a commitment to the Big Red after an offer was extended following his visit to Lincoln. The Whitmer HS senior from Toledo, OH, is a Rivals 3-star Athlete who did a little bit of everything on both sides of the ball. He is 6'2" 190 and is listed as having a 4.42 forty time. As always, take the forty times with a grain of salt, but in his film, he looks anything but slow.

Alexander appears to be a diamond in the rough type of pick-up who flew under the recruiting services radar for a bit because of transfer and academic issues. His only previous offer was from Toledo, but Michigan St. and Iowa had also latched on in the last few weeks and were showing late interest as well. He is very close to to acheiving eligibility academically.
Alexander made a late recognition push, only recently being listed as the #60 Athlete nationally. He played defensive back, slot receiver, ran out of the backfield, designed a graphics matrix for the school's replay board and not only designed the teams offense, but transferred the playbook to interactive touchscreen for everyone's Ipad. Talk about versatile. Okay, I made the the parts up.
He likely starts on the offensive side of the ball for the Huskers, but also gives them another option as a returner. The Ohio connections from staff and players also helped bring this one home as Alexander noted that the presence of the Marrows (Coach Vince and RB Mike) and DT Kevin Williams would give him an anchor as he adjusted to life 12 hours from home.
(Note: Cali OL Corey Whitaker has committed as well, will have a capsule up shortly. Or over lunch. Or later today. Stop yelling at me!!)

Sounds
like a solid recruit as long as the academic issues are fully addressed. Is their a “wow” recruit on the offensive side of the ball that we are going after and have chance to sign? You know the 4 or 5 star guy (not that stars translate to success) but one that will have an impact right away. Or do we have one signed already? I am pretty behind keeping up I guess.

That would be Devin Fuller
He is the #3 ranked Athlete nationally by Rivals, #37 in the Rivals100 rankings and holds about 35-40 offers. It sounds as if it will come down to Rutgers and Nebraska. He has also visited TCU, UCLA and Arizona, but Nebraska was the only school that got an in-season visit, so they were in first.
He has many big name and ig 10 offers – FSU, Ohio St., Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn St, Iowa, Ga Tech, Alabama – but it appears NU has emerged from the pack. A big factor was that most schools would not commit to giving him a shot at QB until after they were eliminated.
The familiar question is – will he leave the nest? If yes, NU appears to be in the best position.

While it's not a 'skill' position, Andrus Peat would be big time
I mean, the measurables are crazy. @6’7" and 300 lbs, he’s going to be a beast on the line. He is a 5 star by all major publications and the 9th overall prospect. Huge props to Bo and Brown if they snag him. Also huge props to getting his cousin, brother and any other friends they could think of to suggest that he attends Lincoln.

Let's make him into a running back a la John Clay.

Leroy Alexander is a nice addition
Kind of makes me think of Ameer Abdullah last year…a very fast, talented athlete who flew under the radar a bit until it was too late for other schools. Who knows what position they’ll put him at…we don’t really need anymore wide receivers or running backs right now, but I suppose if he redshirts for a year and then is a backup as a freshman he could see some playing time as a sophomore in 2014.
Maybe the coaching staff wants to redshirt him for a year and have him provide more depth as a corner or safety?

Would
he be willing to make a safety??? We could use the speed there.

Sounds like he's more than willing to play wherever needed.
With only one receiver in this class so far, it looks like he’s a lean to offense. If we get Alonzo Moore, he’d likely start as a CB.
Or they could get a look at everyone in camp & switch it all around. Or they might hop back & forth a couple of times before they ever see the field. As always, we’ll see.

At least
it sounds like he is willing to play wherever to get on the field.
