Husker fans Challenge: Find the last time Nebraska defeated consecutive Top 15 opponents.
Not Sure that it's ever happened to be honest, and I left my media guide back home in Iowa. I'd say that the feat would really take the season in a new direction, and help the Huskers revive a season that was looking pretty dead. Nebraska has a very tough challenge tonight, facing a team with All-American Jared Sullinger, flanked by William Buford and Deshaun Thomas. All of whom are averaging over 15 ppg.
Last time out, we saw a pretty solid game out of the Huskers, and Dylan Talley showed why he was a great pick-up from Blinn Community College. Talley took the game into his own hands in the last several minutes, and made some critical plays down the stretch to keep Nebraska within reach. Bo Spencer sank a big three-pointer, and on the final play- delivered a beautiful dish to Diaz down low for what resulted in the game-winning free throws. We saw some swagger, and we saw some confidence out of our guys for once. The questions is, can we pull it off again 4 days later?
Nebraska will try to knock off the #6 ranked Bucks tonight, who are visiting Lincoln for the first time since 1987. So jump on and join in the conversation if you can!
Go Big Red!

Let's go, Huskers!
February, 2008…the last time we knocked off two ranked teams in a row.
And, prayers for JoPa….
redvalley - January 21, 2012
There's
Twitter reports that it looks like the biggest crowd of the year at the Bob tonight.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Ha!
Buckeye steal, runs the floor, and misses the easy layup.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Ubel
breaks the ice…2-0.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Spencer!
4-3 Huskers.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Good start!
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
The pace of
this game is leaving me breathless.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Ubel

redvalley - January 21, 2012

Now 15-8 OSU.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
shoot!
I have hope. Barely..
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
didn't we loose badly to OSU(women)??
sd.husker - January 21, 2012
I'm bad
about remembering who we played last, but our last lost was like 20 points…it was ugly, but NU plays 6 freshmen on a regular basis during games. Next year should be special, especially with Moore and Hooper returning.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Huskers
have to stop the bleeding immediately, or this will be ugly.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Now 13 straight by OSU.
18-8.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Richarson!
18-10 OSU.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
gotta go for now,,,be back later,,,
GBR!!
sd.husker - January 21, 2012
Okay, 20-14
but the Huskers are still fighting….and then we commit our 8th turnover.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Oh,
what the hell was that call on Ubel?
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Three from Talley
24-17 OSU
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Still in it
Got some fouls goin on these guys…
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
hahaah
shit.
I knew we were playing some time.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Spencer
sucks?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Twelve point lead now.
30-18 OSU.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
we can't get a call
at home?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Sorry to interrupt...
But Sam McKewon just tweeted that Onward State is reporting that Joe Paterno has passed away.
Husker Mike - January 21, 2012
shit
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
God rest his soul.
And God bless those boys who could have been saved from the horror if Paterno would have done what should have been done.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
good lord
what a horrific thing.
all those years… so many years of being a living legend, and then you end it by fucking up that badly.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
It's now flooding in...

Husker Mike - January 21, 2012
BTN will go wall to wall JoePa at halftime...
Husker Mike - January 21, 2012
36-20
at half.
good grief.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Oh, oh my...
36-20 at the half…and yet I don’t feel NU has played as crappy as the score would indicate.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
wait
Big Ten Network going with “serious condition”
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
yeah
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
Spencer and McCray
suck… right?
shit. I missed this…. I need a better calendar
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
turnovers and horrible outside shooting
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
hey
btw, thank you for doing basketball.
some day. we’ll be good. we will. I still believe.
now,…. if only red would start doing women’s sports….
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
you're welcome
Did you happen to see Kent Pavelka linked Cornnation today? The photos article.
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
he did?
I think Kent appreciates anyone that appreciates basketball.
And you do. I think he just gets tired of getting the crap beat out out of him.
You should interview him about it <—- not kidding.
I mean think about it. He loves the Huskers. He loves the basketball team. It’s gotta be one of the hardest jobs in the state.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
I agree. He has it rough.
Although he has job security I think. I asked him an opinion once on the preseason article I did. It’s good to see his Facebook posts on the team, they end up being threads on their own.
Maybe I’ll ask.
And yes…Red, you should cover the ladies!
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
I'll give
my thanks to Brian, also, for his game threads and articles. He does a wonderful job. I only wish his schedule allowed him to join us full time for every game thread.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Spencer?
Jeckel and Hyde…savior and goat…but is not vanilla in his approach. Just so darned inconsistent at times…tries so hard, it results in a lot of stupid turn-overs. But, if more of his teammates would help his back out by trying to shoulder this team, we’d be better off.
Just some musings from a girl who never played, or was coached in, the game.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
btw
I spent the day….
I bought a new laptop.
I migrated to it.
I waited.
I was patient.
I watched “Star Wars Uncut”
I started drinking gin.
We suck at basketball.
Joe Paterno is dead.
Fuck everybody. I’m just pissed now.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
There's a Star Wars uncut?
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
you have not heard of this?
http://www.starwarsuncut.com/
Watch the movie.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Paterno family spokesman dismissed death story...
Says that the story is “absolutely not true”…
http://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/statuses/160906026760155136
Husker Mike - January 21, 2012
god we suck
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
yeah
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast….
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
With
something like a .536 winning percentage over his tenure here, do think this might be it for Doc?
I’m thinking Tom will give him at least one more shot, especially with the shiny new digs coming in
2013.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
hey
Brian?
If we’re so good at defense, why don’t we press at the time? the whole game?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Can't keep it up all game...way too taxing, and if your athletes aren't effective
…you can lose control of the game really quick.
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
why?
why can’t we keep it up all game?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
You'd have to be in Olympic condition to do that
..or have a very deep bench. Some teams have done it. But again, if you have gaps…teams will get easy points. Just not worth it in most cases I guess. Although, it couldn’t hurt to do it at certain times…
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
wow
Spencer called, then Diaz.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
oh
look at foul call against Ohio State. everyone’s happy
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Hey,
they mentioned Jordan Hooper! (Husker women’s player)
redvalley - January 21, 2012
man
this sucks a lot.
I’m glad we have Brian to do basketball. Personally, I don’t get why there’s not more violence.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Perhaps
it’s because the players are not allowed to drink gin on the court. : D
redvalley - January 21, 2012
it could be
man….
last weekend, I didn’t drink a thing, but I slept on a concrete floor with a thin mat.
This week, fuck it, I bought some gin, and I drank it too quickly. now I’ve switched to good beer.
man, though. Watching Nebraska basketball just pisses me off something fierce.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Concrete floor...
…thin mat… must have been a Boy Scout thing. (There’s five Eagle Scouts in my family)
redvalley - January 21, 2012
it was
I slept next to Jelly Fish.
FIVE eagle scouts? really?
Wow.
No, it was a scout thing at the Mall of America fish aquarium.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
I'm eating a LOT of cheesecake..
at least
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
Honey and I
just polished off two supreme grilled sirloins, baked potatoes, and a salad with six different fresh veggies, plus a bottle of wine…life goes one.
But, man, I’d love some cheesecake.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
you sound like you always have great meals
I’m used to mac and cheese.
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
okay
seriously. stop calling fouls.
stop.
this game could last untlil 2:00 am
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
man
i am in in pissy mood.
Movie: Grey – yet we have another movie that apparently portrays wolves as evil hungry man-eating beasts.
Red Tails: Same movie as Tuskegee Airmen… right?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
I saw Tuskegee Airmen..
…something about the trailer for Redtails makes me not want to see it. George Lucas…..sigh
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
what?
about that foul made it flagrant?
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
didn't see it
my brother is hijacking the tube…dammit
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
i don't blame him
this is bad.
seriously… go interview Pavelka.
make him answer these questions for me:
- what’s it like to love this thing right now
- what will make it better
- his favorite beer.
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
done.
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
and how much fun
is it to do games with Matty D?
Seriously, I love to listen to their call of games.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
that is true
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
oh shit
I’m going to go kill virtual beings
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Moore is looking good...
still down 25
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
79-44
I hate OSU
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
Glad to see
the bench getting some time.
Oh, hell, that’s a lie. I honestly thought, after Wednesday’s game, we were at least peeking at turning the corner, and wouldn’t be down 35 with a minute to go
God, this stinks..
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Just been lurking but the same thing happened to Iowa. Ohio State is too damn good
if you don’t play your best game. Iowa bounced back and beat Michigan a couple games later so sometimes stuff just happens.
clay-born to party - January 21, 2012
Still,
my heart hurts.
redvalley - January 21, 2012
That will happen when you get stomped lol. I know the feeling all too well.
clay-born to party - January 21, 2012
And it's over.
Husker Mike - January 21, 2012
The game,
or JoPa?
redvalley - January 21, 2012
Ugly
79-45
Brian Speers - January 21, 2012
UGLY
Jon Johnston - January 21, 2012
Need something
to soothe the soul? The Nebraska women play Minnesota Sunday at 5:00 on BTN.
LIVE!
redvalley - January 22, 2012
Just Read This Morning's Lincoln Journal-Star
This was the worst loss ever at Devaney
The question before the house, so to speak: is this a firing offense?
Tom has to eventually make a decision. The phrase that best describes my feelings about the program is “they won’t let you be a fan of them.” They’ll steal a win one night against a good team (i.e. Indiana), then not only lose, but get their @sses handed to them the next (i.e.Ohio State).
It seems the losses follow the same pattern statistically; double-digit turnovers and poor shooting, usually in the 30-35% range. I know the box score doesn’t tell the whole story, but I’ve always felt that if you can hold down the turnovers to around 10 and can shoot at- or- near 50% from the floor, you’re at least going to BE IN a lot of these big games.
Nebraska is in the process of building a new arena, but it has no men’s basketball team to put into it. What’s the point of building a new barn if it’s going to end up only half-filled like the Devaney Center is most of the time? Something has to change.
Section 37 - January 22, 2012
Yes. The new arena needs to have a product to sell and unfortunately, women's basketball (despite Yori's pattern of success) isn't a big enough product.
With volleyball moving to the Devaney, that leaves men’s basketball as the school’s marquee for the arena.
With a team which disappoints every week, it’s hard to see fans getting excited about going downtown to the arena to watch someone else’s team win.
I won’t say fire Sadler, per an agreement with the universe, but I find it VERY HARD to believe we’ll retain Sadler, not with such an expensive venue waiting to play host to basketball.
This would be the perfect time for change: there is obviously room for improvement (a consistent top 6 finish in the Big Ten IS achievable and acceptable for Nebraska) along with a new practice facility and arena. Not to mention an obviously improved commitment from the athletic department, which has to be tantalizing. I think the Big Ten Network said our new practice facility and locker rooms were among the best in the nation.
iPads in the showers. IPADS IN THE SHOWERS.
We need a coach that can sell this. Not sure if Sadler really thinks he can – he’s an exceedingly humble man but for whatever reason, his Nebraska teams have been terribly inconsistent.
