It's a short one this week. I'm guessing most of you are taking it easy due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Unfortunately, not I. I. I am always behind, so this is, like most everything else I do, a little (hahaha kindness to myself) late.

Nebraska Not-Even-Remotely-Close-To-Special Teams. Two fumbled kickoffs, a blocked kick, giving up a fake field goal, and getting flagged for roughing the kicker to extend a drive. That turned a bad performance into a blowout.
SEC Cupcakes: On Sunday, the sportswriters rewarded the ESSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEECCCCCCC for surviving their weekend diet of cupcakes. And I mean surviving. Furman leading Florida much of the day. The Citadel neck-and-neck with South Carolina. A one dimensional Georgia Southern team racking up over 300 yards on the ground on Alabama. We saw what you did there.
Whack-job-Husker fans: Hey, nobody's happy that Nebraska failed to get to the Big Ten Championship game. We're frustrated by what happened against Michigan... not to mention that Nebraska hasn't been to a BCS Bowl game in ten years. Disappointment is in order. Second guessing and questioning is in order. But calling for a coaching change? Are you freaking nuts? (Answer: Yes)

I wanted to vote for the whack job Husker fans.
I really did. But then I saw Iowa. Had to give it to them.
Why do we hear such vehement calls for Pelini’s head when we lose? That Michigan loss was tough to swallow, but if you take away the special team miscues, it was a much closer game. Granted, WE STILL WOULD HAVE LOST, but I don’t think it would be the blowout we saw.
The saddest part I think about the cries for a coaching change come from the younger fan base i.e. My age level fan base. I feel like some of the younger fans have fond memories of the 90’s and think things should always be like the championship era. I grew up in the 90’s baby and I am frustrated that such other fans are so quick to call for his head. I feel like it is embarrassing to every Husker fan for these things to go on.
This is a process and Pelini may not be the perfect coach, but at the very least the “best fans in college football” should have the back of our coach when he is doing a pretty good job. I know its hard to replace a man like Osborne, but he has been gone for some time now. Can we show some class and support our team even when we eat major dirt like we did on Saturday?
—Then again, talk to me if we lose to Iowa. Then I’ll be leading the charge with pitchfork in hand.

Get over it.
I remember when we beat Syracuse in Lincoln when they were highly ranked and we were an afterthought in college football. I remember the Gotham Bowl againt Miami (there was only one) when we beat Miami and got onto the national football landscape. I remember the 1970 Mizzou game tin Lincoln hat we were not supposed to win, but did and then we went on to capture the national championship. I remember the terrible years against Oklahoma when we always found a way to lose 17-14 or 20-17 in the last minute of play. I remember when Bill Callahan came to Lincoln.
What I am getting at is that every program has its ups and downs. Yet, accept for the Callahan years, the Huskers seem to average about 9 wins a year. Most schools would love to have that type of record. Last time I checked the Huskers have the fifth best winning record in the NCAA…. I remember the Alaomo Bowl when everyone screamed for Bo Pelini to become the permanent head coach. He is a good coach and I think all those that don’t remember all these events should go back and look up the history and then get off Bo’s case.

I’m too young to remember directly, but all one needs to know is that Tom Osborne would have been fired had he not beaten Texas Tech in a bowl game to close out the 1976 season. Repeat: In 1976, Tom Osborne would have been fired had he lost a bowl game against Texas Tech.
And Osborne lost his share of games on the road against teams that were not highly ranked. After last Saturday’s game, Tom Shatel wrote that it was disappointing for Bo to lose badly on the road to 20th-ranked teams in year four of his reign. Well, okay…but Tom Osborne — in his 18th season as a head coach — went on the road and lost to an unranked Oklahoma team by 5 TDs.
The game here is football. Our version of the game is played mostly by 18-22 year-olds. And talent is spread around more evenly than ever before. We don’t need fans calling for the head of a coach who has won nine games every year. In my professional opinion, those fans need to get a grip.
